James Gomme

Director, Education and Knowledge Management


James Gomme is Director of Education and Knowledge Management at WBCSD. He works to provide business leaders and practitioners with relevant, meaningful and actionable learning to raise ambition, drive action and sharpen accountability around their sustainability goals. At the same time, James also leads WBCSD’s internal knowledge management function, ensuring that the organization is maximizing the intellectual capital at its disposal to support the delivery of systems transformation at scale.

James has been part of the team at WBCSD since 2016. Previously, he led the organization’s work on the social side of the sustainable development agenda, mobilizing private sector efforts in this space through the conception and creation of the Business Commission to Tackle Inequality. James also co-led the development of WBCSD’s Vision 2050: Time to Transform – a framework to guide business action towards a shared vision of a world in which more than 9 billion people are able to live well, within planetary boundaries, by 2050.

James draws on over 15 years of experience in the field of corporate sustainability, ranging across diverse industries and sectors. Prior to joining WBCSD, James spent a decade working for Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan’s largest trading and investment company. At Mitsubishi James led teams across a variety of corporate sustainability, public affairs and investor relations roles in both Europe and Japan contributing to the development of the company’s net-zero strategy and the roll out of its human rights due diligence process.

James has an undergraduate degree from Durham University, an MBA from Madrid’s IE Business School, and is a certified investor relations professional. Fluent in Japanese and Spanish, James is a British national and lives in Geneva with his wife and two daughters.
